Dr. ChungSooyoun Chung, DDS, MS

Dr. Chung thoroughly enjoys her job and she couldn’t ask for anything more! Helping people smile with confidence is a truly rewarding profession, and she loves getting to know the people she serves. A healthy smile is a beautiful smile, and she feels wonderful knowing that her patients are better able to take care of their teeth after orthodontic treatment. She feels truly lucky to love what she does and for her work to be appreciated by the people she works so closely with- her patients!

Education

Before studying dentistry, Dr. Chung studied biochemistry in Yonsei University in Korea and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison for graduate school, earning her master’s degree in biochemistry.

Her dental training was at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. During her studies, she received the Comprehensive Care Award in recognition of excellence in patient management and total patient care. She was also honored with the Pierre Fauchard Academy Certificate in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements in dentistry. Upon graduation, she was also inducted to OKU, the dental honor society.

Dr. Chung went to the University of California at San Francisco for her orthodontic residency and received an MS in oral and craniofacial sciences and a Certificate of Orthodontics. UCSF is known for its cutting edge technology in diagnostics and various training in clinical orthodontics.

Only about 25% of all orthodontists are board-certified. To be certified by the ABO, orthodontists not only have to finish 2-3 years of residency after dental school. They also have to go through rigorous written and oral exams and extensive case evaluation treatment to the board standards.

Continuing Education

Orthodontics is constantly changing and evolving as new technologies emerge. For that reason, Dr. Chung is very active in continuing education. She attends local and national orthodontics meetings and seminars to sharpen her knowledge, acquire new techniques and stay connected with other professionals in the dental and orthodontic field.

As a part of her continuing education, she is an active member of the following organizations:

Southwestern Society of Orthodontists
American Dental Association
Texas Dental Association
Dallas County Dental Society

In orthodontics, building a perfect smile takes time and effort. She enjoys working with each patient, assessing where they are in the treatment process, and making sure they are completely comfortable. As each treatment progresses, she has the privilege of seeing their smile bloom into something truly beautiful. At the end, when the patient finally sees their healthy new smile, their joyous expression always makes her day!

The fulfillment she gets from seeing her patients happy with their smile is only made better by the personal connection she has made with them during the course of treatment. She loves getting to know her patients and discovering what makes them unique and special.

Family Life

Dr. Chung was born in Maryland, but grew up in Seoul, Korea. She is thrilled to make Texas her permanent home and loves living in Carrollton.

She has one daughter, Christine. She finished her orthodontic treatment last year and wears her retainers every night! In her spare time, Dr. Chung loves to go out and enjoys hiking with two of her furry children, Coco and Roux. Her other hobbies include cooking, work out and exploring local eateries in DFW.
