Invisible Appliances
braces options in Plano and Arlington, Texas

Not everyone has to wear metal braces anymore. Many orthodontic challenges can be resolved by invisible braces. Not all scenarios will fit into this category, but many patients will have this option.

Invisible correction is a great esthetic choice and alternative to straightening your teeth. You can remove them at any time, and they are created through computer technology that can track the way your teeth move. With time and patience, the invisible version will correct your teeth just as traditional methods would. At Premier Family Dentistry, we can find the method that works best for you.

Invisible options cannot remedy all orthodontic challenges including certain bite challenges or jaw structural issues. This procedure works for the following problems:

  • Typical overbite
  • Crowded or crooked teeth
  • Teeth that are spaced too far apart

Will They Work for Me?

Teenagers prefer invisible options because they don’t like the look of metal braces. In most cases, this option is viable for teenagers and adults. Removable invisible aligners are great for adults because they do require patience and accountability to be successful. Adults usually can handle remembering to wear them and switching them out.

In more complicated orthodontic cases, however, metal braces will be required instead, especially in younger children.

If you want to explore the option of invisible braces, you should set up an appointment with our orthodontist and go over what you may need to repair your teeth.

Invisible Options

There is a variety of invisible options such as:

Ceramics – these match the color of your teeth, and the wires and brackets do as well. They are created and placed much like metal ones in that they are not removable. The matching ceramic color won’t stain. They may be uncomfortable at first, but the pain is minimal.

Clear Aligners – you see this kind in many advertisements. These are removable clear aligners that are molded to fit and correct your teeth. You remove them to eat or drink. This practice requires much discipline as these aligners need to be worn most of the day. They are supplied and updated in a variety of sets and stages as your teeth change.

Traditional Metal Option

Traditional methods involve typical metal brackets that we all have seen over the years. If you are an adult now, you may have had traditional braces as a child. Today they are not as bulky and large as their predecessors. Modern metal versions are a bit smaller in size and not as apparent. They are wired with archwires that can utilize body heat to help teeth adjust faster.

It should be noted that if your teeth are overcrowded you may require one or more extractions first before you can begin an orthodontic procedure. This is usually required to make space for the teeth to move and align.
